  • Placenta encapsulation is the process of steaming, dehydrating, and grinding the placenta, then encapsulating it in pill form. This is believed to support postpartum recovery by reintroducing beneficial hormones and nutrients that were lost during childbirth. Placenta tinctures and salves are also available, which provide unique ways to use the placenta for longer-term benefits and topical applications.

  • While research on placenta encapsulation is ongoing, many mothers report positive effects from taking placenta capsules, such as:

    • Improved Mood: Some mothers experience fewer “baby blues” and mood swings postpartum.

    • Increased Energy: Reintroducing the placenta’s iron, hormones, and nutrients may help restore energy levels.

    • Lactation Support: Anecdotal evidence suggests placenta pills may promote milk supply.

    • Hormonal Balance: Encapsulation is thought to help rebalance hormones after birth, reducing stress and anxiety.

    • Alleviated postpartum bleeding

    • Enhanced uterine involution (uterus return to pre-pregnancy size)

    • Improved and accelerated healing and recovery

    • Reduced maternal postpartum pain

    • Prevention or treatment of anemia

    • Facilitated bonding with newborn

    • Increased strength and vitality

    • Prevention and relief of headaches

    • Treatment and prevention of hypothyroidism

    • Replenishment and regulation of hormones

    • Improved quality of sleep

    • Increased libido

  • Placenta encapsulation is generally suitable for mothers who have had a low-risk pregnancy and birth. This can include:

    • Vaginal or cesarean births

    • Natural or medicated births

    • First-time or experienced mothers

It is often a good option for mothers who are interested in a holistic approach to postpartum recovery or who have struggled with postpartum mood or energy issues in previous births.

  • While placenta encapsulation is safe for most, some situations might require avoiding or postponing encapsulation, including:

    • Infections: If the mother had an infection during labor, it may not be safe to encapsulate.

    • Use of Certain Medications: Some medications taken during labor and delivery may affect the safety or effectiveness of the placenta.

    • Complicated Births: In rare cases where there are concerns regarding the placenta’s integrity, encapsulation may be discouraged.

We encourage discussing any health concerns with Taylor, who can guide you based on her certification and expertise.

  • Taylor follows strict safety and sanitation guidelines to ensure the highest quality for each placenta service. She prepares the placenta with the utmost care, focusing on cleanliness and preserving its beneficial properties. Taylor will coordinate with you to collect the placenta as soon as possible after birth and handle it according to best practices.

    1. Collection and Preparation

Once the placenta is collected after birth, it’s carefully stored and transported to Taylor's processing space, following strict handling and sanitation protocols. Timing is essential, as the placenta should be processed within 24 to 72 hours after birth to preserve its nutrients and hormones. Taylor coordinates with you to ensure a smooth and timely transition from birth location to processing.

    2. Cleaning

Taylor begins by thoroughly cleaning the placenta to remove any blood clots and impurities. This step ensures that the encapsulated placenta is clean, safe, and ready for preparation. She uses filtered water for this process, maintaining high sanitation standards to avoid contamination.

    3. Steaming (Optional)

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) preparation, the placenta is gently steamed with warming ingredients like lemon, ginger, and cayenne pepper. This steaming process is thought to add energy and help the body’s recovery from childbirth. However, steaming is optional, and some mothers may prefer a raw method where the placenta skips this step to retain more of its nutrients in a raw state. Taylor can accommodate either preference.

    4. Dehydration

Next, the placenta is sliced into thin strips and placed in a dehydrator. Dehydration is a crucial step, as it preserves the placenta's nutrients and prepares it for grinding. The strips are dehydrated at a low temperature (usually around 160°F) for 12-24 hours, depending on the size of the placenta. This step ensures that bacteria are eliminated, creating a safe, shelf-stable product.

    5. Grinding and Encapsulation

Once fully dried, the placenta strips are ground into a fine powder. Taylor then measures and fills the powder into capsules, which are stored in a sanitized container. Typically, the yield is around 100-200 capsules, though the exact number can vary based on placenta size and thickness.

    Final Product and Storage

The finished capsules are packaged and ready for delivery to you, along with instructions on dosage and usage. Encapsulated placenta can be stored in the refrigerator for immediate use or frozen for extended storage, allowing you to benefit from its nutrients well beyond the initial postpartum period.

  • Placenta Tincture

Cost: $35 for the first bottle, $20 for each additional

Placenta tinctures are made by placing a small portion of the placenta in high-proof alcohol to create a potent extract. This tincture is preserved indefinitely and can be used in the years following birth to support hormonal balance, especially during stressful or transitional periods like PMS or menopause.

    Benefits of Tincture:

    • Long-lasting, with a shelf life that can extend well beyond the postpartum period.

    • Provides quick hormone support when experiencing stress or fatigue.

    • Convenient, as a few drops can be added to water or taken directly as needed.

  • Placenta Salve

Cost: $35 for the first jar, $20 for each additional

Placenta salves are made by combining dehydrated placenta powder with natural oils, such as coconut oil, and optional healing herbs to create a topical ointment. This salve can be used for a variety of skin issues, including cesarean scars, stretch marks, and dry skin, as well as minor cuts or abrasions.

    Benefits of Salve:

    • Helps to reduce inflammation, redness, and tenderness at surgical sites.

    • Promotes collagen production, which supports skin elasticity and healing.

    • Gentle and nourishing for all skin types, providing long-lasting hydration.
